Can I claim for an accident at work?
Your employer has a legal duty to ensure you’re kept safe at work. This means they have a responsibility to:
- Make sure you and your colleagues are properly trained.
- Provide you with suitable work and personal protective equipment.
- Undertake risk assessments.
- Manage business activities to minimise risks to your health and safety.
- Provide safe working systems and equipment.
If you’ve been injured at work because health and safety procedures have not been followed then you may be able to make a claim for compensation.
It may also be possible to make a claim if a workplace accident has made an existing injury or condition worse.
“Thank you Andrew, what can I say? Just knowing that my family are now financially secure is such a huge relief. Thank you so much for being there for us. I’m so glad I found you.” DP, BLB client

How much compensation for an accident at work?
The same or a similar injury can affect different people in different ways. That’s why no two claims are ever the same and the amount of compensation you receive is personal to you, ie it depends upon your particular circumstances.
We are experts in carefully investigating and gathering the necessary evidence to allow us to accurately value your claim.
Broadly, your compensation comprises a sum of money for your injuries (“pain, suffering and loss of amenity”) plus your past and future financial losses. There are any number of types of financial loss that you may have suffered. Typical ones that we claim on your behalf (for the past and future) are:
- loss of earning;
- loss of promotion;
- loss of pension;
- the cost of treatment;
- the cost of retraining;
- the cost of personal care;
- the cost of cleaning, gardening, DIY and decorating;
- the cost of adaptations to your home, specialist equipment and adapted vehicles.
Among less common losses we have recently claimed successfully are the cost of a dog walker, livery charges for a horse and future business class air travel for holidays to accommodate ongoing knee symptoms.
“Thank you so much for everything. This is a lifechanging amount of money and it’s just an incredible relief that my family have this financial security.” TB, BLB client
