Stroke Misdiagnosis Compensation
A stroke is a life-threatening medical condition which occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off. The longer the blood supply is interrupted the more serious the chance of long-term brain injury or even death. This makes it crucial that clinical staff identify the early warning signs of a stroke at the earliest opportunity. Early warning signs include:
- Numbness/weakness in one arm;
- Facial weakness/drooping;
- Slurred speech;
- High blood pressure;
- Blood infections.
When diagnosed promptly and treated appropriately, the prospect of long-term limitations and disability from a stroke can be greatly reduced. However, sometimes clinicians fail to recognise these early signs, often with tragic consequences.
Younger People
Whilst strokes are more prevalent in the over 60s, the sad reality is that the number of strokes in younger people is increasing (often referred to as childhood strokes or paediatric strokes). Occurrence in this often unexpected age group means that clinicians need to be even more vigilant for the signs.
“Thank you David for everything. It’s so much appreciated by the whole family, not least by my Dad. He’s got such a good relationship now with the care team and the compensation means that can continue.” RD, January 2018
