Hospital Negligence Resulting in Death Claims and Inquests
Whenever somebody you care about is admitted to hospital for treatment or is placed in residential/nursing care, it is not unreasonable to expect that they will be well looked after.
Unfortunately, however, that is not always the case and unexpected deaths do occur. In such circumstances you will inevitably have questions in relation to one or more of the following:
- delays in providing critical treatment;
- delayed or incorrect diagnosis;
- poor standards of nursing care;
- medication errors;
- breakdowns in communication between hospital staff/departments.
Any one of the above can cause or contribute to a tragic outcome, but often investigation reveals a catalogue of errors. And such cases are by no means rare. Each year the NHS pays out in excess of £50 million in compensation in respect of fatalities in hospital.
Wrongful Death & Hospital Negligence Specialist
Depending upon the circumstances surrounding the death, a Coroner’s inquest may be held to establish the facts and at BLB Solicitors we have the necessary experience to ensure that the family are well represented at the inquest and that the right questions are asked.
David Gazzard has in excess of 25 years’ experience as a specialist medical negligence solicitor and in that time has been instructed in many cases involving an unexpected death.
“David, thank you so much for your support through this very difficult time for my whole family. You really do have an amazing ability to explain things in a way that ordinary people can understand and that has helped us so much in making the decision we have.” TH, September 2017
Recent Claim
Recently, David represented the family of a lady in her 90s who, for reasons which were initially unexplained, suffered a fractured femur whilst an in-patient in hospital. As a result of complications arising from the fracture, she died shortly afterwards. At the subsequent inquest, David arranged representation for the family. Thereafter, he obtained all relevant records and instructed a leading expert in nursing care to provide a thorough report. The report proved to be a scathing indictment of the level and standard of nursing care provided.
“I would like to thank David and his team for their kindness, support and understanding over the last few months since my mother’s passing. Without your prompt action, thoroughness and sound advice I’m certain that we wouldn’t have seen such an early end to this matter.” JK, February 2018
