Every year, thousands of families all over the country take part in the Summer Reading Challenge, run by the charity The Reading Agency. The aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books from their library during the summer holidays and is designed to give the children something enjoyable to do during the summer months and to help prevent any dips in literacy during the long summer break. The Summer Reading Challenge is aimed at children aged between 4 and 11 and is completely free. It runs between 13 July and 14 September.
As a volunteer Julie, who is a marketing assistant based in BLB’s Bath office, will help with enroling children in the scheme, help children to complete the challenge by encouraging them to talk about the books they have read, and give out stickers and other incentives.
Julie commented “I have an absolute passion for books and reading so I am looking forward to hopefully passing on that enjoyment to the children who take part in the challenge.”
